Changed Outlook for the LNG Gate Valve

The brand new version of a very old valve design, has transformed the application of the gate valve in the British liquid gas industry. The traditional safe approach to the management of liquid gas, a liquid under pressure, has been the use of a globe valve, offering the safety of a slowly opening valve. This preference was also down to the lack of reliability of the gate valve, where seat damage could result in permanent leaks relatively soon after installation.

Bestobell Valve engineering designers came up with a new version of the gate valve where the valve seat is removable, completely altering the internal specification of the valve, so that not only could the seat be far better engineered and lapped to provide a perfect seal, but its repair or replacement would be simple. It also removes the opportunity for damage during installation.

By this crucial change in specification, the gate valve could now be safely applied to the many land based liquid gas applications, where speed of operation is a measurable part of operational costs. The gate valve unlike the globe alternative offers a full diameter flow through, speeding every delivery.

Last year, the first of the new valves were offered to BOC to trial across their gas delivery operations. The results were a significant improvement in delivery times, with no loss of reliability.
As a result, Bestobell has started marketing the new specification gate valve across its international sales outlets, and two US trailer builders are already applying the new valves to their builds.

The company today supplies a huge range of cryogenic valves around the world, and remain committed to product development to continue to enhance the reliability of the range. Bestobell gate valves are pressure rated to CL50 CL300 PN45 and PN50 in bronze or stainless steel for actuated or manual operation.
